A first edition, first issue of ''The Virginians'' by William Thackeray. Published by Bradbury & Evans, Volume I printed in 1858 and Volume II printed in 1859.
Line 33 of p.207 has the first issue misprint of ''actresses'' instead of ''ancestress'' and chapters 47 and 48 are misnumbered.
Half bound in a dark green leather with marbled boards. The spines boast five raised bands, gilt detail and maroon leather title panels. The bindings show shelf wear to the spine and board extremities and there is some light scuffing to the marble boards in places but overall the set is in a very good condition. The boards of both volumes remain firmly attached.
Marble endpapers. Ink inscription to front free endpaper of Volume I. Some browning to the frontispiece and title page in both volumes. All other pages remain intact and in a very good condition.
