A substantial size late 19thc French gilded spelter model of La Muse des Bois by French 19th sculptor Julien Causse (1869-1914).
The exuberantly modelled Muse stands on a magnificent rouge marble stepped base with ormolu band and the original plaque for the title and sculptor. The Muse herself is very finely modelled. She holds a spirited, dynamic and natural pose, her garments flowing. She holds a leafy branch, possibly an expression of peace and liberation. The gilding over the model is overall present and the whole item is in excellent condition. It is a substantial, impressive and inspiring work of art.
