Description

An unusual Regency bracket/table clock by this well known Clockmaker featuring a single fusee movement. Due to the use of a single fusee movement it’s quite possible that this clock was made as a bedroom clock.

The silvered brass dial is signed R. Ganthony, Lombard Street, London 126. This maker was working between 1811 to 1845 and was considered an important maker of the day. Unusually the hands have been cut in brass and are exquisitely made

The typical lancet top case is veneered with mahogany to the sides and features lancet shaped brass sound frets, lion head handles and brass ball feet

The front of the case is veneered with flame mahogany and inlaid with raised ebony beading. The dial can be accessed via a glazed cast brass bezel

Regency bracket clocks were typically crafted using mahogany, rosewood, or ebony veneers over a fruitwood or oak core. Movements were constructed from brass plates and steel arbors, often paired with cast brass bezels and silvered or painted dial plates.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit period-correct construction techniques, such as hand-cut dovetail joinery, brass fusee movements, original steel hands, and maker signatures engraved onto the dial or backplate.

A bracket clock can be displayed as a focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, side console, or open shelving. Combining dark mahogany case timber with contemporary neutrals creates a balanced contrast between historic horology and modern aesthetics.

Maintain the case by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish sparingly once a year. Keep the clock away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas of variable humidity to protect the wood veneer.
