Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A salver is a flat tray, usually constructed from metal, designed to present items such as visiting cards, letters, or drinks. Traditionally held by servants, salvers served a social protocol role in aristocratic households, ensuring the presented item was not touched directly by hand.

Salvers are primarily forged from sterling silver or silver plate. Construction often involves hand-hammering the central plate, soldering a cast moulded or piecrust border around the perimeter, and attaching individual cast feet to raise the piece off tabletop surfaces.

Authenticity is determined by examining official hallmarks stamped onto the surface or underside. British sterling silver features a lion passant mark, an assay office symbol, a makers mark, and a date letter indicating the exact year of manufacture.

A salver can be positioned on a sideboard or bar cart to group crystal decanters and glassware. It can also function as a central catch-all tray on a hallway console or coffee table to organize smaller decorative objects.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth. To prevent rapid oxidisation and tarnish, store the item in anti-tarnish fabric sleeves away from high humidity and direct sunlight.
