Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hepplewhite style furniture from the late 18th century is characterised by subtle curves, elegant proportions, and refined outlines. Card tables of this period frequently featured serpentine fronts, tapered or slender French cabriole legs, and flame mahogany veneers.

These tables were typically constructed using solid mahogany or oak frame substructures faced with fine mahogany veneers. Key construction details include hand-cut dovetail joints, gate-leg or rear double-hip movement mechanisms, and baize-lined interiors.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-planed secondary timbers under the frame, original iron hinges, hand-carved details, and natural oxidisation on untouched wood surfaces. The weight of dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany is also a key identifier.

When folded, a card table functions as a slim console table suitable for entryways or living room alcoves. Pairing the dark mahogany wood with modern art or clean-lined table lamps creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic.

Mahogany furniture should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and polished occasionally using beeswax. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high-humidity areas to prevent veneer lifting or surface bleaching.
