Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sheffield plate refers to a historic technique developed in the 18th century where layers of silver were fused to copper before being fashioned into items such as portable chambersticks used for personal lighting.

The material was created by bonding a ingot of copper between thin sheets of sterling silver through heat and pressure, rolling the combined metal into sheets before hand-crafting the object.

Genuine early pieces frequently display a warm copper tone where the silver coating has worn away through polishing, feature turned or applied silver wire edges, and typically lack standard sterling hallmarks.

An antique silver chamberstick can be styled as a accent piece on a bedside table, mantelpiece, or atop a stack of books on a console table to integrate historical metalwork into modern decor.

Clean gently using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized mild silver foam, avoiding harsh chemical polishes or abrasive pads that risk removing the thin outer layer of original silver plating.
