Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian toilet mirror, also referred to as a dressing mirror, is a freestanding mirror produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910). Designed to sit on top of a dressing table or chest of drawers, these mirrors often feature a pivoting swing frame, shield or oval-shaped glass, and an integrated wooden base with small drawers.

Edwardian toilet mirrors were predominantly crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood. Construction often incorporated fine boxwood or ebony stringing and marquetry, alongside cast brass fittings, handles, and original silvered mirror glass.

Authentic Edwardian pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on the base drawers, original brass hardware, and subtle patination on the timber. The mirror glass may exhibit light foxing or grey spots, and the underside of the base typically shows unvarnished, aged wood consistent with period cabinetmaking.

An antique toilet mirror can be styled atop a contemporary sideboard, a hall console table, or a bedroom dresser. Pairing the rich mahogany wood with modern ceramic accents or neutral backdrop walls creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish annually along the grain to preserve the timber finish. Clean the mirror glass using a lightly dampened microfiber cloth, taking care not to let moisture seep into the wooden frame or behind the glass.
