Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th century during the reign of King George III, a linen press is a substantial piece of British storage furniture designed with a upper two-door cupboard containing slides or shelves, positioned over a lower chest of drawers.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, frequently incorporating decorative satinwood or boxwood stringing inlays alongside cast brass handles and oak or pine drawer linings.

Authentic pieces typically display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, secondary woods such as pine or oak, hand-planed back panels, original iron locks, and period-accurate details including bracket feet and oval brass backplate handles.

Position the linen press as a focal statement piece in a primary bedroom, hallway, or dining room, pairing its rich mahogany timber against neutral paint tones or textured wallpaper to highlight its architectural proportions.

Maintain the woodwork by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and variable humidity to protect the veneer and solid timber.
