Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, occasional tables were developed to provide lightweight, versatile surfaces in drawing rooms and parlours. Design features such as octagonal tops and additional lower tiers emerged to maximize display space for books, tea services, and ornamental objects.

Authentic pieces from this era were primarily constructed using solid walnut or rich walnut veneers over solid hardwood frames. Structural integrity was achieved through hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, spindle-turned legs, carved corner spandrels, and cross-stick stretchers for support.

Authentic period tables display signs of age-appropriate wear, hand-turned components with minor asymmetry, original brass castors attached to the leg bases, and period-correct underside construction such as hand-finished wood surfaces and antique fixing screws.

Place the table beside an armchair or sofa to function as a side table for lamps, books, or hot beverages. The two-tier design allows for layered styling, using the lower shelf for literature or small decorative items while keeping the top clear.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood. Position the table away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent shrinking, cracking, or colour fading.
