An attractive oil on canvas after George Morland of a country scene with figures and animals in the snow.

In very good condition with no paint loss and the canvas itself in good condition.

A brass plate on the bottom of the frame inscribed "G Morland" Many of his works were un-signed but easily recognisable.

George Morland was an English painter. His early work was influenced by Francis Wheatley, but after the 1790s he came into his own style. His best compositions focus on rustic scenes: farms and hunting; smugglers and gypsies; and rich, textured landscapes informed by Dutch Golden Age painting.

PROVENANCE : By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989) a designer and architect working for the company Ind Coope. He was a collector of a board range of antiquity which was auctioned by Sotheby's.
