This pair of French bronze urns is based upon an ancient Roman drinking cup with its body adorned with intertwined berried ivy and unusually for this model they have similarly decorated lids with a preening bird finial. Raised on octagonal three-part black marble bases with ormolu mounts.
Overall height approximately 28cms, maximum width, far edge of handle to far edge of handle some 18.2cms and the maximum depth of the lower part of the base is 11.9cms.
They are in very good antique condition with wear consistent with age. The bronze is rubbed to the high points and has been waxed to enhance and preserve the finish. There are 3 small dents to the rim of one of the urns, see photograph, and there are a couple of minor nibbles to the marble.
