Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian leather bindings from the mid-to-late nineteenth century are characterised by elaborate decoration, incorporating heavy blind embossing and extensive gold leaf tooling. Bookbinders during this era utilised steam-powered presses alongside hand-finishing techniques to apply intricate heraldic crests, floral borders, and geometric diaper patterns onto leather covers.

High-quality Victorian books were commonly bound in full or half calfskin, morocco, or goat leather over thick pasteboards. The cover embellishments were stamped or tooled using genuine gold leaf, while pages were printed on rag paper and bound with sewn silk thread structure.

Authentic nineteenth-century bindings feature raised bands across the spine, deep impression depth from physical stamping dies, period-appropriate typography, and age-related wear such as light foxing to interior pages or gentle patination on the leather edges.

Interior designers frequently position antique leather volumes on mahogany bookshelves, marble mantelpieces, or glass coffee tables to introduce warmth and historic texture. Stacking books horizontally creates varied elevation for display accents like brass candlesticks or terracotta urns.

Antique leather bindings should be stored in environment-controlled rooms away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat sources. Clean the covers using a soft, dry horsehair brush and avoid liquid cleaners or synthetic oils that can cause red rot or leather degradation.
