Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century half-leather bindings feature leather along the spine and outer corners, paired with cloth or marbled paper over the remaining board surfaces. This method offered a durable and sophisticated presentation while remaining more economical than full leather binding.

Edwardian trade and deluxe bindings frequently incorporated goat calfskin or morocco leather, cotton bookcloth, heavy millboard, and real gold leaf applied via hand-tooled brass stamps.

Authentic volumes from this period display raised spine bands, hand-stamped gilt titling, publication dates on title pages, and natural age-related surface wear to the leather grain and board edges.

Multi-volume sets can be arranged symmetrically on open shelving, stacked horizontally on dark timber side tables, or used as elevated bases for small decorative objects in study environments.

Keep volumes away from direct sunlight and humidity fluctuations, dust spines gently with a soft dry brush, and apply specialist leather conditioner sparingly if the leather shows signs of drying.
