Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Rococo Revival furniture, prominent around the 1840s, draws inspiration from the 18th-century reign of Louis XV. It features elaborate C-scrolls, acanthus leaf carvings, asymmetrical cartouches, and cabriole legs, offering a nostalgic reinterpretation of classic French court style.

These tables were constructed from carved hardwoods, often pine or lime, coated with gesso and hand-applied gold leaf using water gilding techniques. Tops were typically fitted with shaped, highly figured marble slabs such as Rouge Griotte or marble variants from European quarries.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carved joinery on the subframe, natural age-related wear or red bole showing through thin areas of gold leaf, and hand-cut underside finishing on the marble tops. Original gesso often exhibits fine cracking, known as craquelure, consistent with aged wood movement.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on either side of an entrance hall doorway or beneath oversized wall mirrors creates architectural balance in modern interiors. Pairing these ornate gilded forms with minimalist contemporary artwork creates a curated contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern lines.

Giltwood surfaces should be cleaned gently using only a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove dust, avoiding water or chemical sprays that dissolve water gilding. Marble tops require dusting with a soft cloth and immediate blotting of spills to prevent staining on unsealed porous stone.
