Description

A beautiful pair of 19thc watercolours of quintessential country scenes each signed by Alfred Rimmer (1829-1893) and dated (indistinctly) 1874.

Alfred Rimmer was an artist and author, born in Liverpool 1829. He trained as an architect before travelling to Canada in 1858. He returned in 1870 and devoted himself to painting and writing. He produced at least 14 books, illustrated by himself, on places and towns in England - examples are Ancient Streets and Homesteads of England (1877) and Pleasant Spots around Oxford (1878).

The pictures are in excellent condition and are well framed. The signature on the picture with the sheep is less clear than on the other picture but is present. A very pleasant and gentle pair of old English scenes.
