Muriel was born in the Yorkshire Dales in 1910. She won a scholarship to Armstong College of Art: Newcastle when she was only 14.
Influenced by the dynamic new art of the 1920’s and 30’s she showed a passion for form and colour. She married Fred Lawson in 1933, an artist 22 years her senior, and of a different era, but of the same mind. They were equals, with many like-minded friends. Muriel and Fred lived at Castle Bolton in The Yorkshire Dales all their married life.
