In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Writing tables from the early-to-mid 19th century are defined by robust proportions, architectural forms, and rich mahogany timbers. They frequently feature turned end-support legs, carved platform bases, and concealed drawers integrated into the apron.

Craftspeople typically utilised solid mahogany for structural elements, paired with flame mahogany veneers for drawer fronts and aprons. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used for drawer linings, complemented by hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-planed secondary woods on drawer undersides, and natural age-related patination on the mahogany finish. Look for original castors or turned feet attached to solid platform bases rather than modern machine fittings.

Position the table as a focal writing desk in a home library or study, paired with a modern upholstered chair for balance. It also functions effectively as a sofa table or entryway console styled with clean-lined ceramic lamps and contemporary artwork.

Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer lift. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice yearly, buffing with a soft microfibre cloth along the direction of the grain to preserve the original finish.
