Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tallboy chest on chest is a traditional furniture item consisting of two separate chest units stacked vertically to provide extensive storage while occupying minimal floor space. Popularised during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the design typically features a smaller chest resting on a larger base unit.

Nineteenth-century chests on chests were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut for exposed surfaces, often featuring decorative wood veneers. Secondary woods like pine, oak, or cedar were commonly utilised for drawer linings and back panels, alongside cast brass hardware.

Authentic period tallboys feature hand-cut dovetail joints within the drawers, consistent wear patterns along the wooden drawer runners, and secondary timbers showing age-appropriate oxidation. Original drawer handles should show evidence of cast brass fabrication and authentic patina around keyholes and fixings.

A mahogany tallboy functions effectively as a focal point against neutral walls in a master bedroom or dressing room. Balancing its substantial vertical scale with contemporary lighting or streamlined art pieces creates an engaging juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year. Keep the piece clear of direct heat sources and maintain stable humidity levels to prevent timber movement or veneer lifting.
