Outstanding quality longcase grandfather clock by well noted provincial clockmaker William Stumbels, Totnes, circa 1740.
The arched hood with dentil moulding and column supports, the brass face with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture has strike / silent feature, the case with long trunk door is a wonderfully rich colour and has great patina.
The eight day movement strikes the hour on a bell and is in good working order.
This fine quality clock by one of the best clockmakers outside London really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
