Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement furniture emphasises refined craftsmanship, geometric symmetry, and artistic ornamentation over heavy revivalist forms. Key characteristics include geometric table tops, slender turned legs, intricate spindles, and Japanese-influenced design elements.

Tables from this period were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, oak, or ebonised wood. Joinery often incorporated mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned spindles, and original brass castors fitted to the base of the feet.

Authentic pieces display late Victorian construction markers, including original brass or ceramic castors, hand-turned spindle uprights, cross-braced stretchers, and natural patination on the timber underside and joint edges.

An octagonal accent table works effectively alongside modern upholstered sofas, positioned in a reading corner, or used as a lamp stand in an entryway. The geometric top provides visual interest that contrasts cleanly with contemporary linear furniture.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality bees wax polish twice yearly along the grain of the wood. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish fading.
