After Paul César Helleu, Four Gravures, Mme Letellier
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Brave Fine Art
This exquisite set of four gravures after Paul César Helleu (1859-1927) depict the fabulous Marthe Letellier (1878-1954) - one of the artist’s favourite models.
Helleu spent the best part of his career immersed in the drama of Parisian high society and worked in the circle of John Singer Sargent, James Abbott McNeill Whistler and Claude Monet.
His oils are particularly evocative and usually portray stylish women with lavish outfits and knowing expressions. Marthe Letellier (nee Fourton) features in many of his works including this striking portrait from 1895.
The gravures were probably published around 1920 and reproduce four drypoint etchings.
