Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II style furniture, dating from roughly 1727 to 1760, is characterised by robust proportions, elaborate carving such as acanthus leaves and scallops, pad or claw-and-ball feet, and extensive use of walnut and early mahogany.

Traditional 18th-century writing tables and desks were constructed using solid hardwood frameworks, often oak or pine, covered with fine walnut or mahogany veneers and fitted with cast brass drop handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, thick hand-sawn veneers, oak drawer linings with grain running side-to-side, and natural unevenness or patinated surface wear around handles and aprons.

Position the desk as a focal point in a dedicated home office, library, or expansive hallway, pairing it with clean-lined modern desk lamps or modern minimalist seating to highlight the rich timber grain.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber nourish and lustre, while keeping the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and damp environments to prevent wood movement.
