Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Queen Anne style walnut desks are characterised by balanced proportions, cabriole legs ending in pad or claw-and-ball feet, and the extensive use of figured or burr walnut veneers. Originating in the early 18th century, these pieces emphasise natural timber grain over heavy carving.

Traditional construction typically features a solid timber carcassoften oak or pinecovered with thin veneers of figured walnut, burr walnut, or feather banding. Hardware usually consists of cast brass drop handles with chased backplates and matching brass escutcheons.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, natural shrinkage lines along veneered surfaces, and authentic wear on drawer runners. Authentic period pieces also display hand-cast brass fittings and unpolished secondary woods beneath the drawers.

Position the table near natural light to highlight the figured grain, pairing it with a streamlined modern chair to create a balanced contrast. Complement the warm timber tones with understated ceramic accessories or a simple desk lamp.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the woods moisture. Avoid direct exposure to intense sunlight or heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and wood movement.
