This is a fine quality antique English oil painting of country farmyard scene depicting a horse, its foal and a turkey, in a gilt frame, by Henry Charles Woollett, painted circa 1870, in excellent condition. The painting depicts a horse (dam) overlooking her foal, whilst a turkey stands near, within an English country farmyard scene, with a barn and fenced track behind, painted early evening. Lovely woodland and landscape colours in the background. The painting accurately reproduces the natural colours of the subject, with an attractive range of greens, browns and rusty hues, with subtle red detailing. The item also boasts wonderful texturing, evident in the leaves on the trees and the vegetation on the ground. The painting is set into a fine quality ornate gilt frame and the painting is oil on canvas. The canvas is signed ‘H. C. Woollett’ in the bottom left-hand corner.

The colours are strong and there is no sign of fading. Nominal old age marks to the leading edges of the gilt frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The gilt frame is solid and in good condition; the picture is ready to hang.
