Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early Victorian salon chairs, produced from the 1830s through the 1850s, typically feature curvilinear carved wooden frames, spoon or balloon backs, padded armrests, and cabriole legs terminating in castors. Designed for formal drawing rooms, these open armchairs offered comfortable seating while displaying ornate craftsmanship.

Cabinetmakers crafted these pieces using solid dark walnut timber, joined with traditional mortise and tenon joints. The upholstery interiors featured hand-tied coil springs, horsehair filling, and jute webbing, while the front legs were fitted with brass or ceramic wheel castors.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved ornamentation with subtle asymmetrical variations, ceramic or brass castors attached via recessed sockets, and hand-sawn timber framing underneath. Reproductions often display uniform machine carving, stapled upholstery foundations, and modern screws.

Position the chair as a standalone accent piece in a living room corner, study, or bedroom alongside a minimal side table to contrast historic woodwork with clean contemporary lines. Pairing traditional patterned upholstery with neutral walls creates a balanced visual focus.

Clean walnut woodwork periodically using a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain to preserve the timber finish. Vacuum the fabric gently on low suction with a soft brush attachment, and keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement.
