Description

A stunning French cast iron urn with griffin handles by Alfred Corneau, c.1900.

The urn has been historically coated in a rich blue enamel which has covered the signature but the plaque on which the signature would have been remains visible to the base with some raising indicative of the signature being underneath, the plaque itself being of the correct proportions and placement for an Alfred Corneau piece.

There is wear commensurate with age throughout and evidence of the reattachment of the griffin handles, presumably following the enamel coating of the urn body. Nonetheless the vase remains striking and extremely attractive.
