Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Oyster veneering gained popularity in late 17th-century Britain and Europe during the William & Mary and Queen Anne periods. Craftsmen cut thin transverse slices from small tree branches or saplings, creating oval or round veneer pieces displaying concentric growth rings resembling oyster shells.

These pieces were typically constructed using solid walnut or fruitwood frames, highlighted with decorative walnut or kingwood oyster veneers. Secondary timber often included pine or oak, while drawer hardware was crafted from cast brass.

Authentic pieces feature geometric parquetry patterns composed of circular branch slices on top surfaces, often framed by crossbanded borders. Structural indicators include turned barley-twist or baluster legs, scalloped aprons, and moulded X-frame stretchers with central turnings.

Incorporate the rich timber tones of walnut into contemporary rooms by placing the table alongside light neutral upholstery or clean-lined seating. The piece works effectively as a hall console, bedside accent, or freestanding desk, creating visual warmth through contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to nourish the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or colour bleaching.
