Antique Victorian Flame Grain Mahogany Barley Twist Tilt Top Tripod Wine Table C1860

19th century
Description

Victorian Mahogany Tilt Top Wine Table.

We bring to you this lovely Victorian Mahogany tilt top wine table believed to be made around C1860. This table is in a lovely original condition which we have just enhanced by sympathetically restoring and waxing this table whilst preserving the original French polished finish with its lovely lightly faded Mahogany colour with lots of patina and charm.

This table is made from all solid Mahogany with a rectangular 1 piece Flame Grain top and a finely turned Barley twist Mahogany centre support.

This table features a snap top tilting mechanism which is working smoothly with its original brass banjo catch. The Barley Twist central pillar finishes to elegantly shaped tripod legs, culminating to pad feet. This very rare table is in a superb condition for its age, the joints are all as tight as they should be with no wobbles. The table does have historic woodworm holes to one of the underside rails (pictured) and a few on the pivoting plate. None of this affects the integrity of the table and it has been treated.

Please note this item is in beautiful condition for its age as shown in the photographs below however being an antique item it does have the odd bump here and there. However, we feel that these points are which adds charm and character to a piece.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian wine table is a small occasional table designed during the 19th century, traditionally featuring a central pedestal column, a tripod base, and a compact top used for drinks or lamps.

Victorian tilt-top tables were commonly constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently finished with flame mahogany veneers and fitted with iron or brass catch mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved turned or barley twist columns, original brass or iron tilt-latch hardware underneath, hand-cut joinery, and three shaped tripod legs showing period age.

A Victorian wine table functions well beside a sofa or reading chair as a compact surface for drinks, or placed in a hallway alcove displaying a small ceramic piece or lamp.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, applying a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually along the wood grain, and avoiding placement near direct heat sources.
