A superb small proportioned George I figured walnut escritoire with outstanding original fitted interior C.1720. Moulded cornice to the top with bow fronted map drawer below, fall front escritoire to the centre opening to reveal an outstanding original fitted interior with a selection of small drawers, pigeon holes across the top with concealed secret drawers behind. Central cupboard with drawers behind and leathered writing surface to the fall front lifting to form a writing slope. Two over two drawer base with moulded plinth and period bracket feet. The whole of the front with figured book matched veneers and herringbone crossbanding. Engraved brass fittings and superb rich colour and deep polish. Measures 38" wide x 62.5" high x 19" deep.
