We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian baluster candlesticks feature turned or cast central stems shaped like architectural balustrades, often punctuated with knops and mounted on square or octagonal bases. Popular throughout the nineteenth century, these brass accessories drew design inspiration from earlier Georgian and Seventeenth-century classical forms.

Most Victorian candlesticks were cast in brass using two-part sand moulds, resulting in hollow stems that were soldered together longitudinally. Heavy solid bases or weighted stepped bases were added to ensure stability when holding wax taper candles.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically display faint seam lines down the length of the stem from the casting process, alongside minor surface irregularities or lathe marks beneath the base. Many Victorian examples also feature internal push-ejector mechanisms within the stem designed to push out spent candle stubs.

Arrange a pair on a mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard to introduce warm metallic tones and traditional visual balance. They function well as grounding elements when set alongside modern artwork, dried florals, or contemporary ceramics.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical dipping agents that strip away aged surface character. To remove wax build-up, immerse the affected area briefly in warm water before applying a gentle metal polish sparingly.
