Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall chairs emerged in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries primarily as non-upholstered decorative seating placed in entrance halls. Designed for guests or messengers waiting to be received, they were crafted without fabric to prevent wear and often featured family crests, heraldic motifs, or elaborate scrollwork carved into the backrest.

Traditional hall chairs are constructed from dense hardwoods, predominantly solid oak, mahogany, or walnut. Joinery techniques typically involve mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved relief panels, and solid wooden plank seats designed to support weight without requiring upholstery padding.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved details with minor irregularities, genuine patination in carved crevices, and natural shrinkage along timber grain over time. Inspect the underside for historic joinery methods, traditional pegged construction, and age-consistent oxidation on unpolished wood surfaces.

Place a pair of hall chairs flanking a console table in a foyer, or position a single chair in a hallway alcove as a sculptural accent piece. The rich timber texture pairs well with contemporary minimalist decor, light walls, and neutral stone or timber flooring.

Dust regularly using a soft dry cloth or a soft-bristled brush to clean intricate carved recesses. Apply high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood, maintaining stable humidity levels away from direct radiator heat to prevent cracking or warping.
