Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mule chest is a traditional storage coffer constructed with one or more drawers at the base underneath a hinged lid top compartment. Originating in the 17th century, this design served as an intermediate step between standard coffers and full chests of drawers.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid native English oak utilizing hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs. They typically feature field-panelled sides, iron hand-forged hinges, and cast brass escutcheons or drawer pulls.

Authentic period chests exhibit hand-planed timbers, irregular peg placement, historical surface oxidation, and hand-cut dovetail or rebate joints. Look for original structural features, signs of natural timber shrinkage over time, and a lack of modern machine tooling.

An oak mule chest functions well placed in an entryway, hallway, or positioned at the foot of a bed. Combining the dark timber patina with contemporary textiles, neutral wall tones, or modern artwork provides visual balance between old and new design elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and areas of extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent cracking or timber warp.
