Jane Short Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The front is heavily carved with foliage. The top of the lid has signs of wear but it is stable, strong and doesn't move.
The stand which looks to have been made in Victorian times is sturdy and matches the colour of the box perfectly.
