Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XV style display cabinets, also known as vitrines, feature delicate cabriole legs, curvilinear silhouettes, and elaborate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts. Popularised during the 18th century and revived extensively throughout the 19th century, these pieces were designed to showcase valuable porcelain, silver, and curiosities.

Craftsmanship often incorporated fine exotic veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, or tulipwood arranged in marquetry or parquetry patterns. Additional construction features included cast ormolu mounts, marble slab tops, and glazed front panels with mirrored interiors to maximise light reflection.

Look for high-quality chiselling on the bronze mounts, heavy cast fittings, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and genuine marble tops with natural veining. Stamps or signatures from prominent Parisian cabinetmakers often indicate late 19th-century manufacture.

A French vitrine functions as a focal piece in a dining room, hallway, or drawing room when set against neutral or minimalist backgrounds. Displaying curated modern ceramics, books, or glassware inside creates a dialogue between classical woodwork and contemporary aesthetics.

Dust veneer surfaces regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and maintain stable humidity levels to prevent wood shrinkage or cracking. Ormolu mounts should be gently dusted with a soft brush, avoiding chemical polishes that can strip the original gilding.
