Sturmans Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The long slim trunk with canted corners and figured timber shaped top door. Matching canted corner base with moulded plinth and original ogee bracket feet. Fine engraved brass and silvered dial with painted moon phases to the arch bearing the makers name John Dickinson, Cartmel. The dial centre with engraving forming a subsidiary seconds dial and framing the winding holes and date aperture, cast brass spandrels to the corners. The 8 day movement with anchor escapement and rack striking to the hour on a bell. John Dickinson born at Warton and served as apprentice to Jacob Houseman, known to be working at Cartmel between 1750 and 1779 ( please enquire for further history on this maker). Presented in fully restored condition with good colour and polish, fully restored movement in full working order, 12 months guarantee. Measures 90" high x 20" maximum width x 10" maximum depth.
