Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced roughly between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture marks a transition from the classical restraint of the Regency period to the bolder, heavier proportions of the early Victorian era. Key traits include robust turned columns, reeded detailing, acanthus leaf carvings, and rich timber veneers such as figured mahogany.

High-grade mahogany was predominantly used for exterior veneers and solid structural elements, chosen for its dense grain and flame figuring. Secondary timbers for drawer linings and back panels typically included pine, oak, or cedar, constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints.

Genuine pieces feature period-correct joinery, such as hand-sawn dovetails on drawer construction, hand-planed back panels, and natural wear around original brass locks or wooden knobs. Timber oxidisation should reveal a dark, rich patina inside untreated sections, distinct from modern chemical distressing.

Position the cabinet beside an upholstered bedstead to create a contrast between soft textiles and rich polished wood. Alternatively, use it as an occasional side table in a living area or hallway beneath a framed mirror, pairing it with contemporary lighting to balance the historical aesthetic.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer cracking. Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the protective finish and timber hydration.
