Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

William IV style furniture bridges the Regency and early Victorian eras, produced between 1830 and 1837. It is characterised by robust proportions, turnings, bold scrollwork, reeded details, and prominent use of dark woods such as mahogany and rosewood.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcases. Secondary woods like pine were used for drawer linings and rear panels, while solid wood knobs or brass hardware secured the doors.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut joinery, timber patination, and minor unevenness consistent with hand planing. Features such as turned feet, reeded pilasters, gallery tops, and original wooden door catches or locks are key indicators of age.

A small mahogany cabinet functions effectively as a nightstand beside a modern upholstered bed or as an end table alongside a sofa. Its dark wood tone offers contrast against neutral wall palettes and contemporary textiles.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to avoid drying out the timber or bleaching the finish.
