Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Sutherland table is a specialized type of compact drop-leaf table introduced during the mid-nineteenth century, named after Harriet Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, Duchess of Sutherland. It features unusually narrow central tops and deep hinged flaps supported by pivoting gatelegs, making it a space-saving solution for Victorian tea drinking and side table use.

Victorian examples were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut. They feature rule-jointed drop leaves, hand-turned or slatted dual end supports connected by a low stretcher, and concealed brass or ceramic castors set into splayed legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit distinctive nineteenth-century construction hallmarks, including hand-cut dovetails on internal rails, iron or brass rule-joint hinges on the leaves, original brass castors, and heavy solid wood or thick veneer cut from period timbers.

Due to its narrow proportion when folded, a Sutherland table can be placed behind a sofa, positioned in a compact hallway, or used as an adaptable side table in a reading nook that expands when additional surface area is required.

Preserve the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement or leaf warping.
