Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian side cabinets originated in 19th-century Britain as versatile furniture pieces designed for formal reception rooms. They combined functional storage with elaborate display spaces, reflecting the periods emphasis on decorative craftsmanship and social entertaining.

High-grade dense mahogany served as the primary timber, often selected for its deep tone and stability. Decorative elements frequently incorporated contrasting wood veneers such as satinwood or boxwood for marquetry, alongside cast brass handles and bevelled mirror plates.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, such as irregular dovetail joints inside drawers, along with genuine wood grain variations across inlaid panels. Stamped maker marks inside drawer frames and age-related oxidisation on unpolished brass fittings also indicate period authenticity.

To integrate a substantial Victorian cabinet into a contemporary space, pair dark mahogany wood tones with modern neutral wall colours. Using the open surfaces to display streamlined contemporary ceramics or minimal art creates a balanced contrast between historical detail and modern aesthetics.

Maintain mahogany finishes by keeping the furniture away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer warping. Regular dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and periodic application of a natural beeswax polish will preserve the patina without damaging wood inlays.
