Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Painted satinwood side cabinets gained popularity during the late 18th-century Neoclassical period and subsequent revival movements, characterised by pale, fine-grained wood decorated with detailed hand-painted motifs such as urns, swags, and garlands inspired by classical antiquity.

These pieces typically feature a timber core veneered in West Indian or East Indian satinwood, offering a golden sheen. Construction often incorporates dovetail joinery, tapered legs, a serpentine front, and delicate polychrome hand-painted decoration using oil-based pigments.

Authentic examples display subtle age-related shrinkage lines along veneer joints, delicate crazing to the painted surfaces, hand-planed rear panels, and traditional cast brass hardware rather than modern screws or synthetic lacquers.

Position the cabinet against a neutral background in a hallway, living area, or dining space to let the classical artwork serve as a focal point. Complement the warm timber tones with understated contemporary ceramics or a understated mirror mounted above.

Position the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat radiators to avoid timber warping and paint degradation. Dust gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh solvents, water, or abrasive commercial waxes that could dissolve the hand-painted detailing.
