Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Anatolia, Turkey, a prominent centre for carpet production since the fifteenth century. They are characterized by their soft wool texture, large-scale floral or geometric medallion designs, and muted or vibrant colour palettes.

These carpets are hand-knotted using natural wool spun onto a cotton or wool warp and weft foundation. Artisans employ symmetrical Ghiordes knots, creating a slightly looser, plush pile with distinctive textural variations.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-knotted construction visible on the reverse side, slight geometric irregularities in the symmetry, and natural colour variations known as abrash. The pile is typically silkier and softer than that of Persian alternatives.
