Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II period furniture, dating from approximately 1727 to 1760, is characterised by graceful cabriole legs, pad or claw-and-ball feet, and carved motifs such as acanthus leaves and stylized shells. Walnut remained a popular timber alongside emerging mahogany imports, defined by elegant curves and balanced proportions.

Side tables from this era feature hand-dovetailed drawer construction, solid timber framing, and oak or pine secondary woods for interior linings. Carved elements were worked directly into knee blocks, while decorative brass batwing handles were fitted through the drawer front using hand-cut split pins or thread.

Irish pieces from this period frequently exhibit distinctive deep carving, pronounced shell or mask motifs on the knees and aprons, and slender cabriole legs terminating in webbed or pad feet. Proportions are often slightly heavier or more muscular than contemporary English counterparts.

A Georgian side table serves as a strong focal point when positioned in an entry hall or alongside modern living room seating. Combining the warm tones of polished walnut with contemporary abstract artwork or structured ceramic vessels creates a balanced, multi-layered interior scheme.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a thin coat of clear beeswax polish annually to preserve the patination. Position the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme fluctuations in humidity to prevent timber movement and finish drying.
