Description

George IV period mahogany toilet mirror with its original silvered plate in an arched frame and on reeded uprights;  the bow-ended box-base fitted with three small drawers flanked by inlaid boxwood trellis work panels.  The base of finely figured timber with tulipwood cross-banding and boxwood stringing.  Circa 1825

We deal in 18th and early 19th century furniture, barometers and clocks. We choose our stock for its originality and for the quality of its colour, patination and design.

We are members of the BADA. We do not exhibit at fairs preferring to deal from our Cambridge shop where we hold Open Weekends from time to time.

Produced between 1820 and 1830, George IV period toilet mirrors combine late Regency symmetry with substantial proportion, frequently featuring flame mahogany veneers, turned or fluted uprights, brass fittings, and bow-fronted or rectangular bases with drawers.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often incorporating pine or oak as secondary drawer lining woods, alongside hand-drawn plate glass and turned brass knobs or finials.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-dovetailed drawer construction, original mercury or early silvered glass showing natural oxidation or foxing, hand-carved turned fittings, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.
