Fine Early Lantern Clock in Oak Case

A rare and unusual oak cased lantern clock with verge escapement by John Ball of Newport Pagnel C1720. Slim and simple oak case with wide cornice to the hood and long slim door. The lantern clock movement with verge escapement and bell striking on the hour, engraved silvered chapter ring and matching centre bearing the makers name John Ball, Newport Pagnel. Very original and an early example of cased lantern clock and demonstrating the transition from lantern clock to cased clock. This example illustrated in full in the book by Arthur Negus ' Guide to English Clocks' Superb condition, full working order. Measures 79" tall x 16" wide at hood cornice x 11" deep x 8.5" wide at trunk.
