The Coco-de-Mer is also known as the double coconut palm.
The palm tree has become extinct on three of the islands. It remains present but endangered on the islands of Praslin and Curieuse.

This example has been cut out to form a twin section basket. This was often the work of seafarers returning to Europe.
Importantly, this piece displays and sits well as seen in the photo.
It has a wonderful patina and in excellent condition.
