Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Art Deco animalier sculptures from the 1930s are characterised by stylized, muscular depictions of animals, frequently big cats like panthers or lions, in motion. Influenced by modernism, these pieces prioritized streamlined forms, dynamic poses, and clean geometric bases rather than hyper-realistic Victorian details.

Sculptors of this era predominantly used spelter (a zinc-based alloy known in France as regule) as an accessible alternative to cast bronze. Figures were painted or chemically patinated to resemble bronze or verdigris, then mounted onto polished marble, alabaster, or onyx bases.

Authentic period pieces show age-appropriate wear to the patina, revealing the lighter grey zinc metal beneath high-contact areas. Additionally, vintage marble bases usually exhibit natural veining, slight nibbles or wear around the edges, and period-appropriate threaded rod fixings underneath.

Place the sculpture as a focal point on a sleek wooden sideboard, desk, or mantelpiece to contrast with contemporary decor. Pairing the angular lines of Art Deco metalwork with modern lighting or minimalist backgrounds highlights its dramatic silhouette.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth or soft brush to prevent dust build-up in detailed areas. Avoid using liquid chemical cleaners or water on spelter, as moisture can damage the patinated surface finish and stain porous marble bases.
