Antique Gilt Bronze Single Chain Fusee Clock Featuring A Cherub Reaching For Birds In A Tree By Baetens London.
This stunning single fusee clock has a gilt bronze case with a square base featuring an ormolu mount to the front and four round feet. The clock then sits in a wonderful gilt bronze tree case in stunning detail with three, small, gilt bronze birds sitting on its branches. The case then features a beautiful bronze cherub appearing to be reaching for the birds which sets the piece off fantastically.
The dial is then gilt bronze and set out in Roman numerals. It also features a lovely patterned centre as well as a stunning, intricately patterned surround. The dial is then finished by two lovely, thin shaped hands.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It comes complete with its pendulum and winding key and ticks away as it should. The movement is then a chain fusee example of the upmost quality and is signed to both the back, and inside of the front plate by the maker “F. BAETENS 23 GERRARD ST LONDON”.
Baetens was one of the finest clockmakers in early 19th century England, and was known to have be working in London from 1814 -30.
