French Gilt Brass Musical Automata Box with Singing Bird

19th century
Description

A beautiful late 19th Century French engraved and gilded box with a hinged lid which opens to reveal a singing and animated bird which emerges from a pierced scroll grille.

The little bird which sings quite loudly but sweetly, has iridescent blue and green feathers and is in excellent condition. Inscribed "France" verso.

There is some wear in the gilding due to handling over the years. However, not too noticeable as the overall body is made of brass.

A very good example of these very collectable pieces.
