Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this very rare fully restored Regency circa 1810 brown leather sofa with hand carved mahogany herms statues.

A one of kind piece, this original Regency sofa is simply put a work of art. The carvings to the arms represent Herms busts, these were used at the front of ships.

This sofa has been totally and utterly restored, it has been stripped back to the bare frame, all the joints have been glued and clamped, the exposed timber has been washed back and then French polished by a third-generation French polisher. It’s then been rebuilt using the original horse hair padding and coil springs throughout. The leather upholstery is all genuine vintage hide, it has been in storage for 40 years and has beautifully aged. It’s been upholstered by the finest upholsterer I know in the trade, every panel perfectly cut and individually hand nail tacked in place using vintage solid brass studs.
