Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Toast racks originated in Great Britain during the late 18th century, designed to allow steam to escape so toasted bread would remain crisp rather than soggy. By the Art Deco era in the 1930s, silversmiths favoured geometric forms and clean angular lines for modern breakfast services.

Most antique toast racks were crafted from solid sterling silver or electroplated nickel silver (EPNS). High-quality pieces feature soldered joins, cast division bars, and official assay hallmarks stamped onto the base or frame.

Authentic pieces from 1937 carry official British hallmarks, including a makers mark, town mark, lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter for that assay year. The geometric shape, angular dividers, and streamlined handle also indicate Art Deco production.

Beyond breakfast table service, silver toast racks can be repurposed on a desk or dressing table as letter holders, napkin holders, or organisers for mail and stationery. Their metallic finish adds a touch of classic polish to contemporary sideboards or kitchen counters.

Clean silver toast racks gently with a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners that can scratch the polished surface. Regular dusting and occasional gentle washing in warm soapy water, followed by immediate drying, prevents tarnish build-up.
